I'm building a sump/ refuge out of 10g tank. I have local glass company cutting my baffles for me, but I'm curious what's the best silicone for this. I've seen many videos and people seem to use whatever. Should I be using aquarium specific silicone? Or will kitchen bath silicone work as well. Thanks

5200marine glue 24 quick dry used it befor and never harmed my system so I guess it's reef safe and don't think about moving the baffles again ever ! Lol

GE I Silicone. Some speculation that GE II will also work. Don't use anything that has a mold or mildew inhibitor in it.

DO NOT USE GE SILICONE II. Only use GE Silicone I if you want to use a silicone you can get at HD/Lowe's.

Momentive RTV Silicone Adhesive is what the tank manufacturers use as it is not just a sealing silicone, it has adhesive properties as well.

I have used the GE Silicone I Clear 3 or 4 times in the past and aquarium silicone once. I will never use the aquarium stuff again. It smelled worse than the GE and was much harder to work with. Almost seemed runnier and took longer to dry... It's either GE Silicone I or Momentive RTV from here on out for me.

Ok here are the two products I bought. Def more for the money with the ge silicone. I'm assuming this is the correct stuff? Anybody ever use the aqueon stuff before?

Anyone confirm I got the right stuff before I begin?

Is that a GE I Silicone? Does it have mildew or mold inhibitors? All i am able to read is Silicone I, don't know who its made by though.

Yes it's ge silicone one. Says nothing about mold inhibitors or anything. Just says 100% silicone

I always use this. Cheaper than the official aquarium sealant and Walmart or lowes or anywhere carry it as well.

I didn't see anywhere where that it said anything about mold inhibitors.

Well maybe not all silicone ll has inhibitors

Theres a debate out there about the GE II. Some have used it and have their tanks crashed, being as they set it up and filled it 3 days after curing. Some speculate that this Silicone should sit at least a week for curing, somehting about possible vapors getting into the water. Others have used it with no issues. But we do know that GE I has no issues.

It's been empty just sitting for about a month.
Should I remove it and reseal?????

The stuff you used looks ok, doesn't have mold inhibitors, you should be ok

I used GE II on my frag tank to reseal the back glass and haven't had a problem. I let it sit for a while before I used it though. The frag tank has been running for 6+ months

Says also provides "mold-free product protection" on it. Is it cool to leave on?
