Ok I just picked up a used 56 gallon oceanic aquerium. That I plan on resealing. I would like to use black silicone. My questuon is should I buy silicone from BRS that is reef safe or is stuff from homedepot just the same? And input would be great!

It's doesn't have to be black either. The way the tank sits in the stand u canot see the trim. Maybe clear might make the whole system loon invisible if that makes any sense. I just like the look of the black ok my bowfront. Just wanted to see what people have to say.

I had black on my bowfront but replaced it with clear.
to me it is easier to see stress in panes with clear.

Not sure what your plan is but just FYI to reseal a tank properly it needs to be disassembled completely and cleaned and then put back together.
Adding silicone on top will do very little, a temporary at best.

I ended up going with ASI from bulk reef supply. I scraped it all out to bare glass. I just didn't seperate the panes from eachother.

I always use aquarium silicone or food safe silicone. They should be pretty much the same. Some of the hardware stores used to carry silicone that was safe for aquariums but over the last few years it seems to have disappeared from shelves and what they carry now mostly has some type of fungicide that will poison your tank.

Unless there is a new product out that I am unaware of, this will not seal properly.
The panels are supposed to be completely pulled apart.
