I got a diamond goby a week and half ago and haven't seen him since! I know he didn't jump out, I have the aquarium covered and there is a canopy lid on it. Tricky little thing!

Mine hid for the first month or so. Now he just sits around and does literally nothing. Never has he once sifted sand. Every now and then he'll swim towards the middle of the tank to snatch some food or chase the damsels away. Then returns to his rock/dwelling and looks like an angry old man the rest of the time. I bought him to sift, now I have an elderly seeming fish that chases the kids off his lawn.

They can hide for several days or more when they first get into a new environment so this doesn't surprise me at all.

Careful....he's plotting something. Smart little buggers. That's why I got the shrimp...bit of a snitch so I know what mines doing at all times. Hopefully you haven't dropped any glass cleaning razor blades in there. If he comes out armed remember he can't see you if you don't move. Good luck...we're pulling for you.

A tiger pistol shrimp will make your little guy much more visible.
Agree completely. Added mine at same time but until they found each other and made a little home he was very hard to find. Now he's the best little grumpy watchdog ever chasing away anything that gets too close.

Diamond gobies, despite being sometimes incorrectly called diamond watchman gobies, aren't watchman gobies. They don't pair with pistol shrimp...at least naturally.

Thanks for the correction. You're right I had read watchman and not diamond as OP clearly stated.

I have a diamond goby in my DT and I wish he would take a break. That bugger is in there moving sand all day. When the lights come on in the morning, my water looks great. By the end of the day, the water has a ton of sand floating in it. He has moved so much sand from under a group of rocks that the epoxy holding the rocks together has broken. How big was yours when you got him? Mine is about 4 inches. This is the only experience I have with them, and I am wondering if a smaller one wouldn't move so much sand.

Part of the reason I switched to conch snails.

Consider yourself lucky you have one the sifts

One of our lfs always puts diamond gobies in with tiger pistols. They make them less shy to sell.

That's crazy.. I'm on week 2 and still haven't seen him.

Try looking through the back glass panel. That's where I was able to see mine, then i changed the scape and made it where I'd see him no matter what. He still disappears for a few days at a time, but when flake or other food floats nearby he comes out. I'd rather him make a mess of my tank than just be a lazy freeloader
