Hi all my reefing experts :)
I am going to be adding some phytoplankton and copepods from Algae Barn soon but how to I keep them alive? Do they get sucked out in my water changes? Or will they stick to the rocks and be fine?

I don’t have any kind of sump- canister filter only at this point.

Thanks!

You will lose some to the water changes, but the vast majority will find places to live in your tank. A small pile of rubble or two in the tank will help.

The copepods will breed and multiply on the live rock. The phytoplankton is like a 1 and done deal, like a dose of liquid food. Dont worry, you dont need it, your pods and corals will get enough food from the fish food and/or occasional coral feeding. The only way to keep up with phytoplankton is to grow it in separate containers. I grew it for months. It's not worth the hassle IMO, and dies off before you can use most of it.
