I have recently removed my bio balls and changed over to a new filter system. In doing all this I realized a large amount of silt in the bottom of my sump is this something I should remove or leave. I don't want to take it out if it's adding nutrients and such. But my nitrates were high and after water changes and losing tons of stuff in my tank I needed to make some serious changes. So again my question is do I leave the silt or take it out of my sump.

Ok thanks I just don't want to screw up and of the vitamins/bacteria that is necessary for my tank to maintain proper levels. Thanks again.

i know this might sound dumb but when you take out the silt remember to turn off your pump so that it doesnt cycle into the tank i know for me the hardest yet easiest way to remove it was to use a baster casue i couldnt take out my whole sump to wash it

Don't worry that stuff is mostly detritus.

Could you please elaborate about your system to get more insight. What volume, ligthing, livestock, flow, LiveRocks?
