I love biodiversity and I don’t mind less pretty looking fish for it, and I have been looking for silver reef fish for a while. I know monos are a thing but they seem to need wide open massive tanks and are super skittish, often dying after being spooked and slamming themselves onto some coral or obstacle. Mainly looking for smaller silver one off fish, things that look sorta like shad or sardine (or those actual fish if any of you know how to keep them alive). Or if there is some common tropical version of those fish

Chromis fit the bill smaller, schooling and cheap for the most part.

Thanks, was looking for something more shiny though. Should’ve specified. Something that has the colours of like a lookdown, but duller is fine as long as it’s still silver and not just gray.

Not sardine-like but it’s small and silver and will end being the only one of its kind in your tank.

Haha, fair enough. A must have in all my tanks. Was looking for something a bit more oddball honestly. Always wondered if I could order some sardine like fish or small needlefish

I’m not sure how shiny they are, but have you considered silver lyretail mollies?
Only one I can think of.
Always planned on adding them for algae control support, and they were on of the list mollies I wanted to add. Was planning on a huge variety of mollies and have a little colourful troop of them swimming about
