:(Does anybody know an easy way to calculate this? I’m looking for a simple way to calculate doses.

The few ways I know of have a lot of math involved. I tried to use a calculator, but it doesn’t list NaNO3 as a Nutrient. So it needs to be converted.

Let me know if you can share an easier method.;Bored

although I don’t bother with it, select potassium nitrate in the calculator below and then multiply result in grams by 0.84

http://www.theplantedtank.co.uk/calculator.htm

OK, so check this out. Would this be correct for my 75/G tank?

231 grams x 0.84 = 194.04 grams

So that’s 12.9 tablespoons to 16.9 Oz’s = 1 ppm NaNO3 for every 1 cc or ml dosed to 75 gallons?

I don’t think my Loud Wolf bottle has 12.9 tablespoons in it. Am I missing something or is this simply too strong? Am I trying to use too much Nutrient? Should I cut this in 1/2?

Any help would be appreciated. My apologies for my ignorance with numbers.

Loudwolf bottle is 113g sodium nitrate, so you would enter 134.5 in the grams field and then run the calculator.

I would dilute it with 1000ml to get a bit of a cushion.

To make things a bit easier, you can also just assume that NaNO3 and KNO3 are the same, you'll really never notice the difference using hobby test kits unless you overdose by a lot.

Why are you going to dose nitrates?

Take the dosing super slow and take nitrate measurements frequently. It will creep up and then race to the ceiling if you're not careful. Also watch your alk. That will also need to be managed as you increase nitrates.

Yeah, I’ve dosed for a while. What you say is True. Although I’ve never had an issue with Alk.
I’m dosing Nitrates because they will dip to zero if I don’t dose.

Where are you getting the 134.5 number?

My bottle of Loudwolf is about 3/4 full. So the number wouldn’t be accurate. On the “Amount to Add” I had to put in 231 for each ML to add 1 ppm of NaNO3 for my 75/G.

That’s where I want it. 1 ML per 75/G to > by 1 ppm NO3. It just seems like that’s an awful lot.

That’s more than 2 bottles of Loudwolf!!

Maybe I should cut the dose in half so that 2 cc will > NO3 by 1 ppm of nitrate for every 75 gallons.

If you want 1ml to add 1ppm of NO3 per 75g then you will need 194g of loudwolf.

There’s no harm in making a weaker solution and dosing a bit more to reach the same goal, if that’s what you’re asking.

You should weigh the leftover powder and then run the calculator to get a sense of how much you can get with your current bottle.

Same here. I've been dosing for a while now. The initial dosing was tricky.

Do you dose manually?

Ok, thx...sounds good. I’ll just make it weaker.

I was dosing manually on my frag tank, but on my new system I’ll have it running on a GHL’s. I have 8 heads to dose with. 4 heads will be Alk, Cal, Mag, and Strontium. The other 4 will be Acropower, Iodine, phyto, and trace elements.

Nice! I was automated at first but I could never get the dose correct so I switched to manual. I want to get back to automated though

Look into the GHL 2.1 SA doser. It’s awesome. You can quickly make changes on your phone from the app. You can also access the doser wirelessly over GCC, and remotely using my-GHL cloud service.

They are sweet! Probably the best out there right now.

I've got Apex :(. Trying to keep everything one platform. I like my Alkatronic. Maybe the Dosatronic will hook-up to Apex like Alkatronic does.

Yeah it’s whatever floats your boat. :p

I ended up mixing 70 grams with 16.9 Oz’s of RODI water. According to the calculator it should > NO3 by 0.3 for every 1 cc per 75/G’s.

So about 3 cc will get me close to 1 ppm NO3 in my 75/G.

Do you try to keep NO3 around 1 ppm in your tank?
