I was thinking about setting up an old 10 gallon tank with a PC light and a nano skimmer on it. I guess it would have some live sand and maybe some rock. I guess sort of a seduo prop tank. I may add many power head in there as well.

Could this work?

Frags will grow great under PC as long as they arent Acropras and the wattage is online.
I have two of them with Pc's over them and one with halides.

some of my zoas did better under VHO when compared with MH. really depends on the strain, but overall, your setup sounds perfect for a simple zoa tank.

Why not try T-5's for the lighting?

I'm using it on a 40 gal. prop tank and a 10 gal. QT.
It works great. More output than PC's

im with ya on t5 lighting much better then pc cause you can fit more over tank, lower wattage, redox just as good or better, longer life and if you use enough you can throw a few hardy sps in the mix.
