GM fellow Reefers . I recently go back into the hobby and decided to try out the Simplicity 130 skimmer. From the reviews, i saw nothing but amazing things. Well i has now been running in my aquarium for about 1 week, and the amount of microbubbles are out of this world. I know it sometimes takes a few weeks to break in, however i figured i would have seen some improvements in the week that passed. But nothing. I have moved it up, down , open the airtube completely etc with no improvements.

I am having the same issues how did you fix the bubbles? Just raising it up? What setting is your controller at?

I havent. Bubbles are insane. Controller is set to max as recommended, and airvalve open fully. Bubbles dont show in the last pics but they are there. Just as bad. As you can see from the tank pic

Ahhh OK. Yeah mine is doing the same thing but the bubbles don't make it to my sump return chamber so I am only really having salt creep issues.

My sump doesn’t have a bubble trap (fijicube24) so all the bubbles going to the display. Not fun

Weird, I had one and never had issues. If they are brand new it may be breaking in. Let it run for a while.

I only run mine 12 hrs a day.

Yea i have always ran skimmer 24/7. Dont want ph issues. The pros just outweigh the cons imo. Like i said i get the break in period, but from experience, one week should have yielded some improvements.

Did you double check you assembled it correctly and everything is tight?

I broke it in originally and ran it 24/7 for over a week. Then knocked it back to 12hrs because I installed a diy upflow algae scrubber.

I had the same issue with my Simplicity 320. I concluded my issue to be with the recommended max pump speed for break-in. The amount of flow through the skimmer at max speed would inevitably push out microbubbles.

I ended up begining with the lowest flow setting on the pump controller, then increased the flow setting until I found the highest flow setting that forced the minimal number of microbubbles to exit the skimmer. After each increase I adjusted the wedge pipe to maintain proper level in the skimmer body and watched for microbubbles exiting the pipe.

I hope that helps.

I will give that a try. At what depth do you have yours

This is by far the worse i have ever seen while breaking in a skimmer
