Hey guys,
i purchased a used Simplicity 75SS Sump for my 65g aquarium that is currently cycling and once it is complete and i begin to add fish/corals to the tank i plan to buy a protein skimmer. now my question is what is the recommended water level for this sump? since I bought it used, i dont have the manual and i cant find recommendations anywhere but i did get some useful information from the thread "SUMPS - The rundown". The way i currently set it up allows for excess water to back flow into the sump during power outages without overflowing. however, once i add the protein skimmer (i plan on getting the Simplicity 120DC) is there a certain height that i have to keep the water level at?
i'm still relatively new to the hobby and this is the first time I've had a sump. currently upgrading from a 32g BioCube.
also, the big difference between my new tank and my current tank is that i have a media rack and small refugium in the back. will a filter sock and protein skimmer suffice as a replacement to filtration media? also would a refugium be necessary for this set up? if so how would i go about adding one since the Sump only has 3 chambers. i understand that the substrate, and dry rock will eventually become "live" and will help with filtration and the nitrifying process, i'm speaking more on filtration such as carbon.
thanks in advance!

You will not be using the filtration media like you are used to with a sump. The sock will be used as mechanical filtration to catch detris. Some don’t use socks. They also sell media cups you can put in there in place of socks. The center chamber is for the skimmer. Most skimmers perform best in 8-10 inches of water. You can also put things like reactors, filter bags with carbon or gfo, rubble rock, and other thing in there as long as it does not interfere with the skimmer.
