Should I go ahead ans start setting up a quaritine tank, I'm still in the first stages of my new tank and not really ready for fish but the way everybody is talking I'll have the fish in quartine for 30 or 40 days before I can even put them in the tank
Another question I have is how will I controle the ammonia and all that fun stuff since you can put any live sand or rock in it

Export the nutrients manually. I dosed my QT with active bacteria and have bioballs inside a HOB filter with just those and a sponge. Feed only what they can eat. Use a little siphon to remove the excess food and ant excrement from the fish. I say you'll be money ahead getting a quarantine up and going while cycling your main tank. My tank didn't cycle hard with bio spiral added to it and honestly was ready before the QT time would have been up if I had practiced good tank management from the start.
