They are a more challenging species. They need peaceful and calm tankmates, and are generally pretty shy, but will slowly get bolder as they associate you with food, if they are eating. They are definitely a coral nipper.

How do you entice them to eat? I have garlic I can put on flakes, pellets. I have frozen brine shrimp, and red algae for tangs. Any of that good for them?

They likely will not take pellets and flakes, at least for a while. Try clams on the half shell if it won't take the frozen options.

What's better to do? Will they eat either one?

They should eat either, though the fresh ones will probably elicit a better response.

Figured so. Will check my lfs for some first

If you buy live from grocery store I'd suggest freezing them first anyway to destroy any potential parasites that you could introduce to your tank.

I've owned a few in my lifetime, and they are kind of a PITA to feed. Make sure the specimen you buy is eating at the LFS. Never tried one in a reef, but I think it would probably be a bad idea.

I know it's not the right thread but any experiences with convict tangs?

And my LFS has had this angel for 2 months now and no one has seemed to want it. I came across it and was interested and wanted to know how to care for it

Have you seen it eat? If so, what is it eating? Do you have corals?

I do not have corals and am going to head up to the store today so I'll let you know in about 3 hours or so.

If he's eating and you really want one, I'd buy him. Just make sure you go home with some of the same food you saw him eat. ;)

Okay will update you in a little while when I go
