I was doing some tank maintenance with a siphon and I accidently hit a hammer with the tip of a plastic feeding tube, and to my dismay a single polyp went flying out - I'm quite surprised at this as I didn't think it would be that delicate. I did not hit it with great force.

Is this normal?

Polyp bail out happens, but generally not that easily unless the coral isn't going to live much longer, ime. Was it a young head or part of an established colony?

I hope this isn't the beginning of the end.
