Does it really matter if an overflow box has one or two bulkheads to drain into sump? I take it I just run two hoses/pipes to the sump then?

Wouldn’t dual 1” overflow and single 1” return cause a fluctuation in gph?

It actually does matter quite a bit, you're talking about two completely different drain setups. I suggest you dig a little into each setup Durso (One pipe) and Herbie (Two drains). The latter being the FAR better option. The point of the dual drains is for safety and noise reduction. Both drains do not run at the same flow rate, 99% of your flow in a Herbie drain flows down the main siphon line. The other 1% flows down the secondary drain. This allows the main drain to run at 100% siphon which leads to an almost completely silent overflow.

This also means that your return pump is really only matching one drain (worded backwards and the actual way to set it up is to tune the main siphon line to match your return pump flow).
