Pencil urchin, Eucidaris tribuloides, from Florida. Slow moving, non agressive, eats algae. They are not reef-safe.

I have a rock boring urchin in a 65 gal that hitch hiked in on live rock that is now the size of a baseball. Gonna have to give him up sadly because he is getting way too big for my tank and starting to graze on my psammacora and pavona corals now that he has stripped the rocks of coraline.

Mine too is the size of a baseball in a 40B. He hasn't touched my SPS yet

Have I used "them" before? KP Aquatics....yes and a great dealer. Pencil urchin...no

They eat more than algae , when I had a pencil it would eat GSP , clove polyps and big feather dusters

I've got one urchin that kept wanting to pick up a 3" frag disc with a kenya tree on it. It eventually decided to grab something else and dropped the frag on the substrate.

The ironic part is that I decided NOT to move the frag disc back to where I normally kept it, and that little kenya tree has never looked better.

I Love Urchins but despise the fact that they seem to only focus on my beautiful purple coralline covered rocks Lol

Coralline algae is one of their main diets, so hes happily munching away haha

Mine likes to dress for the night out. I’ve removed the blue mushroom 3times and the Rasta zoa once. But got to love it, my rocks have never been so clean! One drawback, with nothing left on my rocks it has spent the last three days cleaning my coralline algae of the back wall. I supplement with pieces of nori, it spends all day eating it. I’ll stop when it’s back on the rocks.
