Sinularia coral

Hello all,

I have a sinularia coral and they guy some days is all big and waving around but sometimes he "deflates" and just lay on the rocks. Is this normal? He has been kind of smaller than usual for the past 5 days. I have been reading around and supposedly they are bullet proof, maybe he is just moody. My parameters are basically stable and there havent been and swings, i have several lps and they are doing great. Any advice on how to care for this corals will be appreciated

Give it time, it could still just getting used to your system. If it seems to waste away, like disintergrate then worry. I have one that took about a week or so to adjust

I have one the size of a soccer ball when it’s super happy.

It’s relatively stable except for when it sheds.

It will shrink to baseball size then take a few days to fully inflate again.

Mine has days its huge others it's short and stubby. Other days it get a brown film and shes. But it's a great coral. I have 3 separate colonies now in my tank. All came from the same original frag. Some look blueish green others are bright green. One stays stubby all the time. Where another is always stretching for the stars. Guess it all depends where its located in the tank and how much light and flow is hitting it.

Soft corals will do that from time to time as they grow. Sometimes a few drops of iodine in your top off water can help them.

I see what looks like a mixed reef. If so, then you want to run carbon. Sinularia are known to be fairly toxic and can slow down SPS growth.

Motortrendz, that is a gorgeous Sinularia. The color is just stunning. Where did you get it? I got an ORA from Diver’s Den and it doesn’t hold a candle to yours.

Mine was mad for like 3 months and has recenlty taken off, placement and correct flow were the ticket for me. Please excuse the dirty glass, im not home so the wife is watching the tank and glass cleaning is her second most hated thing to do.

The tank is mostly soft and lps corals, i only have a montipora that a friend gave me, but i will keep the carbon in mind at some point i want to get an acro to see if i graduate into the sps world. Thanks for the info

Those are beautiful corals, do you have them under a lot of flow and lighting?

I dont have a par reader but i used a toastool as reference, they are at the same level and the toadstool is always happy, the only difference is that the sinularia gets less water flow

I dont have a par meter. But I do have them off to the sides of the lights. They are down about 15 inches from the top and the lights (hydra52) are about 9 inches from the water. Those open up the most. The one in the center is under the 52 almost directly and it doesnt really spread out wide. It stays compact, but the polyps are always out. This one is also a brighter green than the others. The others have a blue tint to them.

Think of leather corals like Emo teenagers and you'll practically be able to talk to them.
Mine like Nine Inch Nails and Nirvana (although they were grunge).
