A friend has a drilled tank. He used flex tubing. Where and how would he add a siphon for the return line?
 
Can you kindly provide some more details please?

How many and where are the drilled holes in the tank?

Just for kicks, tell us about the sump and the return pump too please :)

3 holes 2 on one side 1 pm return. Jebao dc 4000. I don't have info on his sump tho

Sump has skimmer reactotor then refuge then goes to return
 
Just to get the technical misconception out of the way, the return line would not be a siphon. It can create a siphon when the pump gets turned off, but you would want to put a siphon break in the pipe just above or just below the water level.

Basically, you just need to add a bulkhead and a return nozzle. Flex tubing would work from the pump to the bulkhead. Adapting the threaded connection on the pump may or may not be tricky. On my DC 9000, I had to use three different parts to get what I wanted, I'm not sure why though, that was a while ago.

However, I would not do it this way. I would use all three holes as overflows (i.e. BeanAnimal style). The one on the far end I would use at the emergency line. Then you just need to run a pipe up the side or back of the tank and hang it over the edge.

I just read the title, did you miss the word 'break' in the sentence above? If so, that changes (almost) everything, lol...

If you can't easily add a siphon break in the pipe just above or just below the water level, then you could add it externally. I did this on my 220 for my two return lines:

I added a T and flex tube, the ends of the flex tube sits just below the water level in the overflow. In your case, they should be just below the water level near the return nozzle.

If you had a picture, I could advise more accurately :)
