Siphon Stopper...anyone using one of these?

Hello,

Anybody using one of these or used to use one: http://www.customaquariums.com/c-8-siphon-stopper.aspx

I purchased one of these when I started my first custom build 75G set up. Thought it was a cool idea and helped alleviate one of my fears...flooding (I've had a waterline behind my dishwasher fail and flood most of my house while at work...NOT a fun or economical experience!)

Cool idea...well, maybe...but now I find myself looking at the DT and HATING the bubbles coming out of the siphon stopper. Add to this that this is near a wave maker and I'm getting micro bubbles everywhere.

So has anybody had any experience modifying the siphon stopper or is it even possible/worth it? Any suggestions/ideas will be greatly appreciated!!!!

Why?
As long as your return is close to the surface and your sump is of sufficient size to hold the gallon or two that flows back until the siphon breaks you will never have a flood. My 100G retruns are submerged 3/4" in the display so in a power outage a maximum of 3.5 gallons flows back to my 30G sump which operates with between 18 and 20 gallons in it so I never worry about floods and I don't have to maintain anything, look a bubbles or listen to water squirting out of a drilled hole. Why complicate something as simple as an air gap?

Also an imperfect solution, but I already had one.

(I run spraybars with most of the outlets in the bottom half of the tank, so something like this is a must. The only trick is to know the level of the tank water while the system is running BEFORE you drill so the gap is submerged while the tank is running. I wouldn't call it a trick, but I did angle the holes "down" so that when the system starts back up water isn't jetting across the room while the tank fills up. Someday I'll redo my plumbing and undo that mistake and get the air gap under the water line.

(I wrapped airline tubing around the holes so the water just runs down into the tank....functional, but not elegant, bandaid.)
