how much would you recommend for a system with 300-320 gallons total water volume? Am currently using the reef salt. Did 3 weeks of bio s. Currently using pro bio s and np pro. Plan on adding corals next week. All levels are good except nitrates which are still at about 20ppm. Plan on having a big bioload as far as fish. Skimmer is the reef octopus 5000 int. Thanks

Recommended volume is 1-3liters of sipo. rings per 100 liters of water. So something like 35-50liters of siporax is what you need.

100 liters = @26.4 gallons
320 gallons/26.4 gallons = 12.1

so if you want 1 liter of siporax per 100 liters in 320 gallon total water volume, you would want about 12 liters

If used in correct way, it helps you to get rid of nitrates. Down to undetectable levels, and forever. No chemicals no dosing no risk. All extra you need is some place in sump, and some time.

Please explain if it's done correct? What's the correct way? Sounds like it's a lot like bio-pellets.
I have a large area in my sump. After the skimmer but before the return. I guess where a fuge would be. Do I just place in sump? Do I keep it in the nylon bags? Does it need to be rinsed every few weeks? Very little information out there on siporax

If you have a middle section in your sump, its a good place to put siporax containers. In general, containers are built from eggcrate pieces, connected with zip ties. It might be good to shake the containers in saltwater a few times to remove detritus. No freshwater rinse (You lost all the colony).

For very little information, I am not sure. You can check this and this threads for utilization of siporax for denitrification. There are many success stories in the links. Including mine.

Thanks Ontheway, I just recommended the 2nd link to the OP. I think it is important to point out here on this thread that some Aquaforest users do utilize siporax for additional biofiltration. I myself use 2L in a reactor of standard size siporax, and 4L of Seachem Matrix passive, lying on the floor of the sump. I use a filter sock to catch debris and maintain a clean sump, so it works well for me. The use of siporax and the Probiotic Method of Aquaforest seem to be a good fit for one-another, but just wanted to make sure to know that AF cannot provide support on a non AF product. Thank you again for posting the link. Cheers :)

Thank you for your help and fast reply. Is there a video or something somewhere to show how and what it looks like in this eggcrate?
I saw a picture but the siporax looked tall compared to what I'm gonna order

You are welcome to ask this quesion in the Aquaforest Group support page on FB, here is the link. You can post up there, as many europeans have used this material for years and have all sorts of advice and likely pics and videos. Feel free to join :)

I understand, You Tube might have some videos with a simple search too. I get you about FB though, I use it mostly for Aquaforest stuff these days ;)

So what's your suggestion on putting them in my sump? Just leave them in nylon bags and throw in? Make the eggcrate basket and stack them standing up? A reactor?

So it's best to have this stuff standing up while inside the egg crate?
Thought I read somewhere about it coming in different sizes

IMO, it does not need stacking, it will work in reactor, in sump passive, or in special cage. Just try and keep the siporax from being clogged by detritus. For this reason only, use use a filter sock to maintain a clean sump. Cheers

Perry I have been thinking of adding siporax to my sump. Where is the best place to buy it and what best size. My total water volume is about 95G. Thank you for the help!

As long as young filter out detritus, no need to stack.

Hello how are you! I ordered mine through amazon, it is not cheap, so I use more of the matrix, readily available and is still 25 times more efficient thank live rock. Siporax is supposedly like 40 times more. I am thinking of adding another 4Liters to the sump. Tank seems good, but I would like nitrates a dash lower and pack more fish in the display. I have 2 Liters of siporax, the smallest size. Cheers:)
