Need help! My six line wrasse has something wrong with its eye, I noticed this about a week ago and figured it was popeye it was cloudy and the eye was popped out a bit. I’ve been dosing melafix and checking my water condition and everything is solid. Today after work I checked the tank and his eye has went from cloudy and popped out to dark grey almost black. I’m curious as to what this is and if it’s even fixable at this point?

Welcome to R2R! Sorry to hear about your wrasse. In order to help you, we need to see a pic of your wrasse under white light.

He is acting completely normal if not better than the day I got him, he’s eating just fine he’s swimming out in the open and in between the rocks. All my other fish are peaceful and I haven’t witnessed any aggression from him or any of my other fish.

Melafix wont do a thing. You want to quarantine fish and treat with maracyn which is ethromyacin for 5 days and should be healed. This is nothing to wait out as suggested

Thanks, I’ll do that asap! Really appreciate the help guys!

So - here is something else; if just one eye is affected, it is often just a minor injury that either heals on its on, or with using Maracyn 1 in a treatment tank. If both eyes are infected, it is more likely a widespread internal issue.

In the last picture - there is clearly an air bubble inside the eye, it is tugging upward on the sclera. That is serious if it grows larger. These have three causes: gas produced by a bacterial infection, supersaturation of the water due to an air leak in a pump, or from mechanical injury.

Hey guys, so I went to 3 different LFS and I couldn’t find maracyn. One guy recommended I get API general cure, I was wondering if that would work the same. The eye seemed to be getting a tad better in my tank but I still would like to treat it so it’s not stressing the fish out. If the api won’t work I’ll just have to order maracyn.

They also recommended microbe lift Artemiss, anyone familiar with these and if they work?

API General Cure is not an antibiotic, so that won't work. Artemiss is an herbal supplement, and won't help with active bacterial infections as well as true antibiotic will.
