Hey All,

Need some help identifying something wrong with my six line. He's been in the tank for over a month. No issues. He's still eating. I haven't seen any other fish go after him. However, today I noticed this wound on his belly and I'm not sure of the cause. It honestly looks like hes begun disintegrating like a dead fish would, but hes still alive.

He's still swimming fine and he just ate as well.

Sorry for your troubles. Unfortunately it is really hard to see anything in the picture you posted. Can you please post a better picture?

Lets get a little more info...

- What are your water parameters?

- Is he displaying any strange behavior? flashing, scratching, etc

- Any stinging corals or inverts?

I'm out of the house now but I was unable to get any other good pics. Ill try again when I get home. All my water parameters are in check. No amm, nitrites, and <5 nitrates.

Hes acting completely normal and even ate when I fed them earlier.

No stinging inverts. We have a torch and hammer coral but nothing else I would think could cause damage.

If he’s still eating, there is not much you can at the moment besides watch and wait. Hoping for the best!

Would you advise against pulling him out? I could put him in a 10 gal QT. I have some melafix I could dose him if it's a good idea.

I tried getting a good picture but it wasn't working. The video gives a little bit better view of the wound. Sorry for the backround noise. The wife and kids are making christmas cookies haha.

Necrosis is usually a sign of a serious bacterial infection. Consider giving the fish a bath in methylene blue and then into your QT with antibiotics to help the fish's immune system to fight off the infection.
NFG powder or the trifecta of Kanaplex + Furan2 + Metro would be recommended for 10-14 days. And of course a good mix of frozen foods with some vitamins like Selcon, Zoecon, etc.

The LFS is closed in the area for the hollidays and any medication from the internet is going to take a long time to get here... I have some melafix on hand and that's it unfortunately. Would it be worth setting of a QT to dose that or is the fish better off in the tank?

Melafix is a very mild antibacterial product for mild infections. Always better to treat in a QT where the fish can rest and heal. Best of luck. Merry Christmas.

Yea I get the feeling melafix isnt going to help much if at all.

Wondering if he may have a better chance in the DT then stressing him out with a move to QT seeing as I dont have the right medication for the QT.

I noticed today (yesterday it was fine), my six line wrasse has something growing in the skin. Any help would be appreciated. It is eating and behaving as always, thanks
