Size needed in the ocean?

Militaries around the world routinely sink old tanks, ships and vehicles in the ocean to create artificial reefs to combat the loss of reef habitats. I don't there would be a big enough piece of metal to disrupt ocean chemistry. All of the stuff we dump in there combined is probable twice the size of Hawaii.
I wonder what the difference between a magnet, or screw and the hull of an old ship or tank is?

Ya think about. Reefs these days are created by rusty old ahipa in which coral actually grow on them soo ya.

the whole rusty screw crashing ones aquarium in nothing but an overt hyped myth perpetuated by the human nature to find fault because they tank crashed and they don’t know why other than finding a rusty screw or magnet, thus it must have been that...

Id like to give you a bolt for your tank to prove to me nothing bad happens :D

Sure, been in this hobby since 2007, found a lil rusty screw or a razor blade from time to time. No biggie, of course I take em out but never a tank crash...

Concentration.

A little is useful since the ocean is starved for iron in many locations.

A lot of other metal ions present will kill organisms.

Will you try a brass screw? lol

If your tank needs copper and zinc! (J/K)

How about one this size?

Also try to imagine all the rusty metal that is currently in the ocean even if buried in the sand ever since mankind came into exsistence. I’m there there’s hundreds of thousands of metric tons of it rusting in the ocean and rivers flowing into the oceans as well

That, horseshoe crabs, and stingrays make me not want to walk into the ocean barefoot. lol

Ok, next math challenge: If all that metal 15.2 MxMxM was made into one screw, how long would the shaft or that screw be if it was 2.54cm (1”) Outside diameter with threads?

Depends on the metal. I will give the experience i posted on here last year where I had a penny fall into my 10 gal frag tank with very healthy and fast growing digipora. Took less than 24hours to heavily bleach most of the SPS. They came back (blue digis are tough to kill) but I was shocked at how dramatic the zinc in a penny caused a zooanthalae blow out. Zinc is also an algaecide.

Steel used in ships is mostly iron which isn't a big deal. The ocean has a massive dilution capacity. Not like a 10gal tank.

I found this thread and got another brass question. I'm considering using a Watts hydronic air vent in a sulfur denitrator. There are no plastic air vents i can find.

My goal is to eliminate the maintenance of venting the denitrator. I plan to disassemble the bowl and spray "Plasti Dip"on the brass parts that contact water. This is too prevent corrosion to extend the life of the air vent. I have no problem replacing the vent ever couple years too. they are cheap

Any concerns or things i am overlooking?
