Hey all. My DT (120) has been up and running about 3.5 months now. I kinda thought maybe that I could get away without quarantining but I was wrong. I lost a firefish to a bacterial infection and now my Midas Blenny has it. Its time to set up a QT although it may be too late for the Blenny. I still have a clown pair in the DT. When I was building my system, i bought a 20 High tank to be my ATO reservoir but did not have enough space to fit it under my stand so I replaced it with a 10 Gal. Is the 20 High ok for a QT set up? I'm not going to have any large fish other than maybe a Kole or Yellow tang, but I hate the thought of stressing these fish out for nearly three months in a 20 Gal if its now suitable. I thought of maybe buying a 40B to set up instead, especially if Petco is doing the $1/gallon sometime soon. Or if you think the 20 High will be fine for my needs then I'll put my money elsewhere.
One other questions. How often do you guys perform WC in a QT? is once a week viable or does it need to be more often because of no LR?

Read my article in regards to QT setup. As long as you add tank dividers to mitigate the aggression and ensure water quality is pristine. You should be fine. I housed 5 small - medium fish for 4 months without any issues.

I have a 120GDT and a 20G QT. I haven’t quarantined more than two fish at a time (bought at same time from same place and tank) and so far I haven’t had any issues. Nice thing about the 20G is that it’s not a huge volume of water for dosing medicine or doing water changes. When you’re done with a QT its also easy to clean out and reset.

I do my water changes on the same schedule as my DT, and also use an ammonia badge. When I need to reset my QT I just plan for a large water change from my DT to the QT

I use a 29 gallon tank for quarantine. A 20 high is a good size. I have heard of people using 5 gallon food grade buckets as quarantine tanks.

Can you explain to me what you do with it when it’s fallow? Do you empty it and clean it? How long can you let it run fallow in between purchases? Do you QT inverts in there as well?
