Sizing a refugium grow light

Hi All,

Any idea how to size a grow light for a refugium to grow chaeto?

Grow compartment is approx 6inch cube. Current lighting options are 10W, 30W, 50W.

Light will go on a timer and will optimise to suit chaeto health and nutrient consumption.

I have a Kessil H160, I think it is 40w, over my 8"x12" (close to that measurements) refugium. When I was actually using the refugium for growing chaeto, the chaeto grew from baseball size to...well, the whole compartment withing 4-weeks.

I also have the Kessil H160. I can't say how well it works yet because the light has only been on a few days. I got it because my DT uses Kessil's also and it would work on the same controller.

Wow, that's huge growth... how many hours a day were you running the light? And what's the mounting distance?

I use the h80 on a 12x8 fuge and get really great growth, for the size you are looking at I would not go with anything bigger than an h80.
