I’ve bought frags from 4 different vendor sponsored live sales on reef2reef in the past couple of months & have been surprised by the variations in the sizes of frag plugs when I have received my shipments.
Previously I have judged the size of the frag relative to the plug that it’s on in the vendor’s photo but this was based on the assumption that all vendor plugs are the same size. However, there’s apparently no set size of plug used across the board, although the majority are pretty close to the same size.
For example, I recently purchased some frags that seemed to be good sized relative to the plugs they were on but when I got my order some of the frags were on plugs that were very small. Therefore, so were the frags. So how do you gauge from a vendor’s photo what size the frag actually is? Is there a rule of thumb or a trick to it or do you just note which the vendor had the misleading frag photo & not ever buy from him again? Surely I’m not the only one who has experienced this.

Often times a retailer will specify the dimensions of the frag or how many polyps or WYSIWYG! Sometimes the frag plugs are displayed on eggcrate so you can get a pretty good idea as to the size of the frag based on the eggcrate cube size.
You can also send an E-mail or contact them. If they are a bonified and professional business, they will be amicable and help you with questions you may have regarding a frag or colony. Good customer service is what keeps businesses in business I would think! It worked for Walt Disney...
