Sjoerd his reef

Welcome! Nice build! The stratons are great lights and have done wonders on my tank. Enjoy the forums
Could you maybe answer my question regarding par and different pre settings? I have the lights 15cm above the tank. And the first corals 15cm below the water. I am wonderen how high the intensity should be..for lps lower 1/3 of the tank 100% seems overkill...what do you think?

I run 4 of them mounted 13" over my tank using the SPS/LPS setting with reduced reds, @60% will put you at about 165 par 14" below the water. I run my most outer 2 lights @ 55% due to keeping LPS there. I have an Apogee 510 PAR meter to get that PAR reading. I run my center 2 @ 100% over the SPS with a screen top cover and get 320 PAR, just remember where your 2 lights intersect in the middle the PAR will be higher.

Oo this is great intell. Is it ok if i ask some more indept questions? Regarding my settings and tank. Or is that to much.?

Welcome to your new home for saltwater reef aquarium resources and fun! Welcome to the family! :D

I’m fine helping where I can but comparing my 4 lights to your 2 is tough at best, I have also been acclimating my tank to higher par for about 3 months. I don’t want to be responsible for your corals bleaching or not doing well. Renting a PAR meter or finding a local reefer that has one is always your best bet

Hi everyone,

My name is Sjoerd i am a reefer from the Netherlands. My instagram is reefing_physio. I have a 1 year old reef tank 525 litres. And I am still a newbie trying to figure this all out. An overview of the tank below. With some pictures.

Equipment:
Red sea skimmer
Uv heli max 2 36w.
2x gyre 330
Powerfilter
2x ati straton
Doser
Activated carbon
Macro rock
Marine pure spheres and a Block.
2 filter socks 100 micron and 200 micron

Water values
Fosfate0.08
Nitrate 10
Kh 9.9
Mg 1380
Ca 470

Corals: sps ( 4 acroporas,1 millepora) Challic, favitis,2 stylophoras, favitis, calustrea, Duncan, acan,

Extra: pink bubble tip

Fish: 2 clown fish, lawnmower blenny, manderin and a few other fish i cant remember the English names.. will get back to you on that :).

So far i just defeated dinoflagellates! Yay! And the tank seems to be back on track.

For nog i am looking for information regarding par and intensity settings for the ati straton lights. I will add a picture of my current settings. I run different settings per section (back and Middle set at lps/sps and front set to lps) to try to perfect the range for all corals. I have not found a review yet that shows the different par ratings per pre-settting.

When the lights turn on i will make a wide shot.

Happy to meet you all,

Welcome!
It look great.

Love the corals Sjoerd....
I just started a 300 build from ground up. Doing it all myself except I had the tank made.
The 300 will take the place of my 140...
Sure hoping Santa, hahah i mean UPS brings me the stuff i ordered this week...
Still have lots to buy....
Check my progress out so far...
Any ideas you have or any one has I would love to hear..

Thats really understandable. I am just curieus what the par will be 35cm below water level when you set it at 60% with the Either the lps or the fluorescent presetting. I do not wish to burn the corals. The sps/lps presetting I have already figured out via other posts and your intel.

Its the measurement of spectrums. Color, or its position among the light spectrum, is a major component of the photosynthetic process. zooxanthelle is the algae living within coral tissue, doesn’t absorb light uniformly. Certain wavelengths of light are absorbed more efficiently than others.
Photosynthetically Active Radiation(PAR), is a common method of measuring light in our hobby. Measurements are used to determine intensity at specific points throughout the aquarium. As just mentioned, zooxanthellae algae thrive when exposed to specific wavelengths of light. Achieving ideal PAR values based upon coral species requires more than a keen sensitivity to light. Meeting such values without specialized equipment is almost impossible due to our inability to see the full light spectrum in a different way.
A PAR meter is best way to determine wave lengths although experienced reefers have an eye for what is likely acceptable PAR

Thanks for all the intel... but that was not the question.. i want to know the par of the ati straton at 60 with presetting lps and pre setting fluor at a dept of 35 cm.. this is measurable by the previous poster. I understand the differences in tanks set up etc.. but it gives me an indication.

hi welcome to the reef going to love it here!!
lots of fun/info/fun/help/fun....

Best accomplished with a PAR meter
Any suggested numbers offered could be detrimental to your coral
Possibility that API may be able to offer values but every tank differs in height, length, type of specimens/coral making it hard to target
