do you guys clean your skimmer cup every time you empty it or do you just empty it

i usually skim a tad on the wet side, and i dont have a collection container run to my cup on my reef octopus NWB-150 classic

about every 3 days or so i put out half of the collection cup with a dark looking nasty concoction that resembles really dark iced tea with about an eighth of an inch of "mud" at the bottom of the cup

usually i pour it out and since the cup under tap water and run my fingers in the cup and the neck to get the cup semi clean....

lately since i had my pump die and replaced it with an aqua trance i have been skimming a bit more on the wet side because the pump is stronger than the old one and i also gave the skimmer an acid bath to clean it.... i think it still needs to break in again before i start seeing the dark skim i used to get....

tonight i just pulled the cup and dumped it, without washing it... . it made me wonder what others do with their cups...

Swabbie + skimmate locker, haven’t touched my skimmer in weeks...among best things I’ve bought

i have been scared to add a skim locker or bottle because every once in a while my skimmer will go bonkers and overflow.... i think it happens when my girlfriend buys formula one and feeds it to the tank...

sometimes it is the only food she can get at the petco on her way home from work.... i usually make my own food with nori and frozen ship, mysis, and brine shrimp, but lately i have been slacking and she is the one that feeds the tank.... she like to hand feed the fish....

Anytime I let the wife feed my tank she overfeeds and says that the fish are still hungry and that I starve them haha I feed them 2 small meals of frozen food and one feeding of dry food a day ;Hilarious

Haha, well at least you have someone to blame. I overfeed like mad. The other day when the BRS guys posted how much they feed the BRS160 to show how it’s “a lot” I realized I have a problem:)

I got avast’s Davy Jones, it’s plugged to my controller but they sell a version with a power plug, it will shut down your skimmer if the locker gets full to prevent overflowing.

i actually have her convinced that a hungry fish is a healthy fish... she feeds 1 cube every other day, or a dime sized piece of my food every day (equal to about half a cube)

im going to look at that Avast Davy Jones!!!! thanks!!!

Skimmate locker and a john guest valve. Open the valve once or twice a week and let the cup drain into skimmate locker. Also have an avast pressure switch installed in skimmer cup so if it starts to overflow the skimmer will shut off.
