Skim heavy no filter socks

I don't use socks. I did for a few years but I never replaced them as often as I should have anyway

That seems to be the main reason why ppl dont run them. They are a must IMO but they do need to be kept up on. The only time my tank goes without is when I go on vacation

I don't know, I have run tanks without them for 9 years or so and things were fine. Past two or three I tried it on two of my three large tanks. No real benefit noted IMO but again I didn't keep up on it :/

I use them. Before when I didn't use the socks my sump would get stuff settling on the bottom that would have to get cleaned out eventually. Since using them on my new set up my tank and sump look a lot cleaner. I do change them out weekly though. Just think. All that stuff in the sock, would still be in your tank if it wasn't on. And to me, that's some nasty looking stuff.

I ordered silencers 3 months ago and they still have not arrived.

Where did you order them from?
Bubble king parts and stuff should be easier to get soon.
Someone new is going to be importing parts.

I use diy socks to quiet the waterfall from the drain...my fault I cut the drain hose about 2 inches too short. I remove all visible pods when I switch out the socks every couple days. I made tons of them so I was when my grocery bag gets full. I used some cheap arylic felt so I only really get the big stuff.

I am a huge believer in tiger conch! I keep one in my overflow chamber, The first chamber in sump And one in the return, they keep the detribus are up and the chambers prety clean! my lfs sells small conch for ten bucks! Highly recommend them

I use them after a w/c or any other time I've stirred stuff up. Otherwise I'm sock-less unless I see some extra particles in my display from the sand bed being disturbed by one of the fish in the tank.

My reef tank has been running for a year now. Two filter socks in my sump with about 1100gph running through them. The sump is spotless after a full year with just a little coralline algae here and there. I switch socks every second or third day. Takes one minute. I reverse the dirty socks and rinse under running water until I can no longer squeeze out any dirt. Then they're ready to be reused for the next filter change. Besides the sparking, clear water the socks remove stuff that would end up in the skimmer possibly reducing it's efficiency. If you construct your own sump I would suggest putting them in and you can remove them later if you find they are too much trouble to deal with. As far as food goes I feed the tank daily with coral foods and shut off the return pump for a half hour or so. Corals seem to be growing well under those conditions.
