Skimmer Accessories - What's your Favorite?

I run a SRO-3000SSS INT Skimmer with the Reef Octopus cleaning head and love it. It keeps the inside of the neck completely clean and allows the skimmer to perform all the time as if it were just cleaned. I'm also thinking about getting a skimmate locker to go long without having to change and give me protection from an overflow so it'll cut off the skimmer.

What skimmer accessories have you used and what results have you gotten with them?

Nope, I love it. I'm planning to buy a skimmate locker maybe today and plan to keep a thread with performance of everything with pics I've run this cleaning neck since I started this tank and its been great. I ran the skimmer a few weeks without it and felt it didn't perform as well without the neck being cleaning all the time.

I have the Swabbie on my BK and love it. Also have the skimmate locker, which I consider a must have!! I can go 4-5 weeks without touching my skimmer....

Nice. I want to buy a Avast skimmate locker but the only one they have in stock is the largest one. I guess its only $30 more, haha

I have the Davy Jones Skimmate locker from Avast and love it! It is just a screw on lid that fits on top of any 5 gallon bucker. I have it wired to my Apex. Once the locker fills up, I get an email saying it's full and it shuts off my skimmer. Works beautifully and really decreases the amount of time you have to deal with your skimmer (as long as you have a head cleaner for your skimmer). I highly recommend the lockers (if you have the room).

Thanks Craig. I plan on buying the standalone one that looks like a reactor instead of the bucket kind, but I'm sure it'll perform the same way.

I have a SWC Xtreme 230 cone and plan on getting a head cleaner and skimmate locker!

Can the head cleaner be used on other skimmers than reef octopus? Or does each manufacturer have their own accessories?

I know that Avast will make them to fit any sized skimmer head. Not sure about Reef Octopus but guessing they just make them to fit their own skimmers.

Correct, you send in the top of the skimmer collection cup and they'll custom fit a swabbie for you. Can beat that type of service.

Or you can buy the kit and install it yourself. They are out of stock right now, expect Mid to Late Feb to get them in.

I have the skimmate locker, it's saved me a few overflows already. Great piece of equipment IMO.
