I added a UV to my system on Sunday and all week I have been seeing a very odd skimmer reaction so hoping someone can help me understand whats going on.

I typically run a fairly dry skim and its been extremely consistent in its production. I empty the cup about 1 time every 2 weeks. My tank is a low stock tank currently after an ich outbreak killed all the fish - thus UV to help with that.

Since Sunday, my skimmer has been producing a "wetter" skim which others on this forum have confirmed makes sense since the UV is probably killing a lot int he water column - that makes total sense to me.

What I'm struggling with is that its not consistent. it can run dry for 12 hours and then all of a sudden the cup fills with water. Or overnight everything is fine and then at lunch its full.

Skimmer is well broken in, tank is 2 years old. Only change recently is the UV. Does anyone have experience on this that can explain to me what might be happening?

Thx

Probably just all of the "new" surface area that has not been covered in biofilm. Nothing to do with the UV, just all the fresh plastic.
