Skimmer adjustment

I've got a Reef Octopus in my sump. Every time I plug it back in after cleaning / emptying the cup it has to be readjusted to get the level right. Shouldn't it just go back to where it was before since nothing changed with the valve settings?

Pretty normal to have to adjust it to some degree, shouldn't have to adjust it way to much, but yea, small degree.

When I turn it back on it barely comes up to the base of the neck. At least a good three or four inches down from where it was before. Then the hassle of the small adjustments to get it back to the right level.

It should not need to be readjusted provided that you regularly clean the cup.

How often do you clean the cup?
How long do you wait after cleaning before looking at the foam head level?

The cup gets emptied and cleaned about every two or three days. It's not full at that point but I don't want to forget to do it so it's become a regular thing.

I've waited overnight sometimes just to give it plenty of time to reset.

I have never felt I need to readjust my skimmer after cleaning and I have used many skimmers. I also don’t turn them off for cleaning though.

How do you do that without getting "stuff" all over?

I cleaned it last night. The foam / bubbles were just barely overflowing into the cup when I unplugged it. Put the cup back and turned it back on. Foam was blowing out the top virtually immediately. Had to turn it way down to correct it.
