Does anyone have any experience with the reef octopus BH 1000 skimmer? I have been looking at skimmers and have narrowed it down to the bh1000 or a remora pro skimmer. Any advice on these 2 or others?

You might take a look at the newer BH 90. Is a sump out of the question?

I'm getting mine on Monday to finish a setup on Wednesday ... Pm me after then if you want info on first thoughts!

What kind are you getting Monday? Yes I have decided against a sump. Too confined under the tank area.I have a 55 gal tank. I have read a lot about skimmers being under rated so I thought I should go with one rated for a 100 gal. Is that a mistake?

the esshop series is an amazing piece of skimming equipment. you should take a look at it. I have one at home and it skims like nothing i've ever seen

Don't worry you're not alone. I did the same thing. In retrospect, I wish I went with the reef octopus. Lesson learned.

You should take a look at the CAD Lights Pipe-less skimmer. It would be so perfect for you because it sounds like you're limited in sump space and it has an extremely small footprint of only 4.75"x 4.75". I can tell you from personal experience that it works VERY well and it's rated for up to 100g!

I really don't like hob skimmers because I don't want my equipment hanging on the tank, sticking out like a sore thumb when I want people noticing what's in my tank instead. A sump allows you to hide all the ugly equipment like skimmers and heaters etc.

I checked prices on the bh 1000 and the CAD Lights Pipe-less skimmer retails for less at only $174.99 and would allow you to keep it out of sight. Win win IMO :)

Feel free to pm me if you have any questions about the Pipe-less skimmer. I'd be happy to help cuz I think it's an amazing piece of equipment!

+1 on aquamaxx I just got mine last week and its already producing a ton of skimmate. And it has an over flow from the collection cup, which saved me from gallons of water all over the carpet

+1 on Aquamaxx HOB. I have had mine for about a year and its awesome! Easy to clean as well. Pulls TONS of waste.

I have the aquamaxx and its worked great for me. I had a remora pro and I hated it, I could never get to skim like I wanted it to. I've heard really good things about the reef octopus skimmer.

I wish I new how to post a video from my phone
