240g FO moved a month ago with all fish, rock, 50% of the water. Weekly water changes of about 40-50 gal. Got a custom sump set up 1 week ago. Until this time the skimmer was only producing a small amount of brownish bubbles. I was thinking that I probably needed to shop for a new skimmer at MACNA. Did a water change on Sunday and increased the amount of water in the sump. The skimmer started working like it should BUT the stuff is aqua blue. Any idea what might be causing this? Also - can anyone identify the mnfg. of this older skimmer?

My skimmate is like neon green but I feed tons of nori. What are you feeding your fish? Looks like dawn dish soap with all those bubbles. Lol looks like an older top fathom skimmer. What is the sump made from?

Sump is new acrylic. Made by a long time reefer. I am feeding Sea Veggies, Frozen Silversides, Frozen Brine, Frozen Mysis, Frozen Marine Cuisine, Roggers Food. Nothing really blue green unless it's the sea veggies doing it.

Im unsure about the water color but that is def a top fathom skimmer.

SUmp must have had something on it. Most have resins on them when they sit on the shelf, but if a guy made it for you, I have no idea.

Try feeding the same food you normally do but thaw in a plastic cup and put holes in bottom amd see how much nasty cloudy crap comes out if your frozen food. Maybe there is a chance yours is blue? Idk thats weird but js since you live in fl near me... I have a smimmer for sale thats good... aqua euro usa cone skimmer...
200 and I'll bring it to you lol or meet you somewhere. Be in ybor tomorrow around 3

My bf did that with the food and it wasn't blue lol but nasty. Makes you wonder if it affects the tank water and corals...

I usually do thaw in a cup but didnt think about putting holes in the cup. I do appreciate the offer of the skimmer but I'm not ready to throw this one out yet. I would just like to know what is causing the blue color. The sump was custom made from new materials that the fabricator had ordered just for it.

No additives? I've seen skimmate that color before from some adding supplements like Kent's Essential Elements. It's blue though so I'm sure if you were using that it would be obvious. Just throwing it out there.

There was no film on the sump. I've used some Seachem Marine Buffer to raise the pH but not in a couple of weeks. No other additives have been used. Makes me feel a bit better if it is just 'leftovers' from one of the prepared frozen foods I've been using. I tried to start a thread to see what everyone else's feeding regimen was but got no interest. Just picked up some Rogger's and everyone seems to like it.
