So i recently setup my refugium and growth seems to be doing great. However, i started running into issues with my Skimmer. Every few days, I keep having to clean out the impeller in the pump for the skimmer because small pieces of macro algae get sucked in.
So my question is, is there any way to help prevent this? I cannot be the first one to encounter this issue.

I think its because the skimmer is usually before the refugium. you may need to rig some plastic canvas or netting before the last chamber.

Where is your return pump located?
As what Salty says, you can put in a sponge that is just made for a baffle like that or some egg grate will do the work too.
Google some sumps pics and you'll find a few, it's easy to DIY.

I use the coarse filter media in my baffles from DFS. Just be sure to clean out often, NO3 magnet and effects your sump level before and after the baffle when full. JME
