I’ve started wiping down strategic areas of my skimmer cup with veggie oil to keep the skimmate foam from going out the top of the lid. I wipe the outside of the neck ( not inside! ) and the inside of the cup, and the outside of the foam guide. All areas where the foam should not be clinging to.
Skimmate foam was constantly coming out the lid holes which makes it stink, and causes a mess. In my case, it caused extra problems by getting skimmate into my home grown skimmer odor control solution.
I would warn that if you don’t have a solution to auto turn off the skimmer when it gets full, you should use something reef safe oil like Selcon or fish oil ( this probably stinks and is likely a poor life choice ).
Here’s a pic with over a week of collection now.
