Im looking for a skimmer and space is seriously tight, i need a skimmer thats no wider then 6 1/4''
any suggestions, i was looking at the tunze nano 9002 but the reviews on some of the internet stores was extremely mixed, i got a 36G with a 10G sump

Darn... Bubble magus Nac 3.5 would've fit right.
How about an aquamaxx HOB skimmer?

It's called Aquamaxx HOB-1 Skimmer. It's about $200. I heard it's one of the best skimmers.

The Warner Marine has a footprint of 5.5 x 6.5.
It might fit.
I believe Jon is selling a few for $175 shipped.

I have to check the footprint, but im pretty sure it was less than 6" wide, I got a nac3.5 cone knock off rated for 65, I have very limited space and it works pretty good. For the $ I am satisfied. I got it for $75 from eBay seller. I have 32g total in my tank and sump. Pm me if you want a link to their reviews. Been running since oct w minimal maintenance.

I got one of these on Monday for my solona and couldn't be happier! Works better than the stock and tune Skimmer so far. Has a small footprint but is a little tall but not a big deal for me. Very well made and easy to setup.

Actually the Skimz 121 and the Warner Marine 121, because of the pump is 5.5 x 7, I just went through this and I wound up ordering yesteday a JNS VS1 Hang-On-Back Protein Skimmer, which is the same as the Aquamaxx, I am going hang it the side of my sump, it gets great reviews. I will let you know how it works out, its due for delivery Monday.

Look at the SWC 120 or the Reef Octopus Diablo. They have some of the smallest footprints that I found. (currently running the SWC120 in a ten gallon sump on a 29 gallon.)

Depends on what you have planned for the tank.

If you're going for the typical overstocked "garden" reef, then I would not suggest the 9002 (a venturi skimmer) for anything larger than ~25 gallons or so. Otherwise up to about 40-50 gallons would be handled.

They've released a new nano needle-wheel skimmer - the 9004 ($150) - which should handle your tank nicely! Tunze is recently a R2R sponsor, so you could drop in on their forum here and see what they have to say as well!

BTW, will you have enough water depth in the sump to handle these skimmers? As in-tank skimmers, both the 9002 and 9004 are designed to sit in around 9" of water. Either will be fine in the sump as long as you can meet this requirement.

My favorite alternative might be to deploy an Aqua C Remora (hang on) or Urchin (in-sump) on that system. Very simple, well designed skimmers that offer great bang for the buck - especially since they are not hard to find used. (Especially the Remoras, but also with some patience the Urchins.) :-) They also allow you to use any utility pump you'd like - more/less efficiency, expense, flow at your discretion. Most people start out with 300-350gph and have great results.

Good luck!

So I recieved my JNS HOB Skimmer and set it up yesterday. I did a few modifications because I hug it on the side of my sump, I extended in the intake tub by 3 inches and the outflow by 4 inches so it would pump the flow into a middle chamber on my sump that has a sponge in it. So far working great, NO MICRO BUBBLES at all in my tank!!I want to thank Premium Aquatics for their idea to use this skimmer with a very small sump, its exactally what I needed. Here are some photos of how its hug.
