Skimmer Cup Drain Lower than Sump Wall

My skimmer cup drain is hooked up to a skimmer locker outside of the sump. The problem is that the sump wall is higher than the drain, so due to gravity, it does not drain well. Has anyone else encountered this and if so, how did you deal with it? Are there inline pumps or something to suck/pump the skimmate over the sump wall into the locker?

acrylic sump?
can you drill and add a 1/2" bulkhead fitting so you can drain the skimmate "through" the wall?

you could also make a skimmer stand out of eggcrate and just raise it a couple inches or however you need it. this is what I did with my old skimmer that had the drain
