Skimmer Cup Lid

Ok so at some point before I got my used skimmer it had the ring on the lid that is bigger then the riser tube in the skimmer cup. It no longer has that ring anymore. Should I do a lit diy work and add one? Does it make a big difference if it doesnt have it?

Is there any noticable difference in the performance since you no longer have the ring in place? IMO... If it is still working strong, I wouldn't mod it. Could the ring be used to secure the riser tube so that too much foam dosen't push the cap off? Not completely sure about the ring, just bumping your thread.
