So I have a 75g zoa dominated tank with about 8 fish 2 clowns, 1 yellow tang, 1 flame angel, 2 chromis, 1 midas blenny, and a six line wrasse
Right now I have a vertex in180 skimmer it works fine but sometimes won't skim much... The water height is at the recommended height

I'm thinking of going with something better and newer
I was looking at 2 skimmers in particular just trying to see if anyone has any reviews on these on experience or anything

Going to have to go with the Reef Octopus on this one. The Bubble Blaster is a great pump, but the Sicce outperforms it in this class.

Hang on skimmers only skim when there is stuff for them to skim. I have a SWC 150 on my mixed reef 75. It stops sometimes and then starts up again and my water quality is great. I would say if your water quality is good then do not worry about it.

If a skimmer is skimming all the time, 24-7, that's not a good thing. It means your skimmer is under-sized.

If your skimmer is "shutting down" for a few hours a day, or even more, that's good. It means it's skimmed everything a skimmer can skim.

It's possible to have too much of a good thing, of course. An even bigger skimmer is going to be shut down for longer periods and may even have trouble forming an adequate head of foam if the DOC's aren't high enough.

Hope this helps!

P.S. You've got a clone of one of the best skimmers made. I'd hang onto it. :)
