I picked up my Eshopps S300 skimmer today, I fell in love with one I saw used on another local members tank and ordered one. Well, while I was waiting for it to come in, I was randomly browsing the interwebs, not even looking for a skimmer and I decided to check out the Avast Marine website. I saw the CS3 skimmer and became intrigued. I cant seem to find many reviews on the actual performance of the skimmer, just build instructions and build reviews. The local guy that has the Eshopps S300 is now going through a pump upgrade because he says the Sicce psk1200 isnt pulling enough air for him. I know air flow is a big factor in skimmers, but I cant seem to find any Air flow ratings on anything anywhere, the pumps, or the skimmers or what not. So here I am debating, do I open the Eshopps box, and run the skimmer, Or do I turn around and sell it, make a profit, and buy the avast cs3 kit? Current tank set up is 265g, with 40g breeder refugeum and 30g sump. Actual water volume is around 250 I believe (it was a lot of really poor guesstimation during the filling process) In the future I am planning on plumbing in an 80g frag tank, the DT is pretty heavily stocked withe about 110 corals but only 15 fish, with a few more to come.
