In the process of putting my equipment together for my 180. Tank has been purchased. Next I want the skimmer. The 2 I have decided on r the skimz sm 161 or the reef octopus classic 200int. Those r the 2 that would be in the price range. Can anyone help me out. Suggestions welcomed.

when i had my 125 setup i used the reef octopus and loved it. Worked great. No experience with the other brand

skimz and reef octopus are great skimmer honestly you can go with either one

I looked into the bubble magus curve 7 too but read alot of negativity about the overflowing problem and the impeller. But like I said from what I've read.

I purchased an AquaMaxx EcoMaxx EM300 In-Sump Protein Skimmer to run in my current 180 build project. I have been running it for a few months in my 70 with great success so far (way overkill I know).

Ill have t look into the aquamaxx then. Thanks. Kinda wanna stay within $300. Hey aslmx have u had any problems with the magus.

The problem with magnus skimmers is finding parts when things break. Conversely, that's a real plus for reef octopus as almost any part you can think of is available direct through their website.

I have the nwb-150 and I have no idea why it's so cheap. I know the pump isn't the best, but not a big deal IMO. When it breaks I'll get a water blaster and turn my modest nw model into a super reef octo.

The 2 things that are currently grabbing my attention skimmer wise, are the avast skimmer kits and also the new jabeo powered skimmers that are being offered by reef breeders. May be worth checking those out before you make up your mind

I have both the aquamaxx em200 and the ConeS 100. They are great but I would look into the aquamaxx ConeS 2 or 3 !

I picked up a used Reef Octopus xp3000 on the classifieds here for $300 awhile ago. It was in great shape and has been a killer skimmer for my 180. Very consistant.
