Was thinking of going with a bubble magus curve 5, what would you guys recommend? Water level is 8inches and the sump is all 1 level.

On my tunze 9001 there’s a valve under the silencer to reduce and increase the air. I don’t see that on the magus. Just a valve that increases and decreases the amount of water going in. Would I be able to add something to allow me to increase/decrease the air it’s intaking?

I ran a curve for a while. It did alright. Super simple. Throw it in and turn it on. Adjust flow and you’re done. If that’s what you’re after than it’s a decent skimmer. If you’re looking for something a little more versatile but lower price like the bubble magus then another skimmer I’ve used that I liked was the simplicity skimmers. They take a bit to get them dialed in but they are DC driven so you’ve got pump speed, flow, and air to adjust. Which is why it takes a little longer to get them dialed in.

Nice, yeah I want simple that can then be moved to a 75g-90g tank when I upgrade down the line. But the more tunable one is cool, I can see it working on different sized tanks more efficiently

I like running small skimmers don’t like big ones, I rather clean the cup regularly then have a big skimmer not skimm. With that said my tank was running hob gear for a year with a tunze 9001 inside. The skimmer was too big for my 20g but just right the breeder more or less.

I added the sump about 2-3 weeks ago and the skimmers been having issues skimming. I’ve only had 1 cup skim, when I would legit nearly dry skim a cup daily before the sump. I just cleaned the skimmer a little while ago and will leave it for now. Was looking for an upgrade now

Then yeah a curve is a good choice if you’re looking for simple.
I just find it odd how they don’t allow you to adjust air intake. Is it that much of a big deal though for a skimmer in the tank sizes I plan on using it for? Would I be able to diy a little valve with a tube or something to be able to change the air flow?

I had a Deltec SCA1351 (now 600ix) on my 40 with sump and it worked greT
