What would you all recommended for a 40 breeder with a 20 long sump? I'm thinking a bubble Magus 3.5 cone Skimmer unless there is something better without a big price tag. Will be for some softies, LPS and SPS with two fish at first then a few more when I upgrade to the 40B

All suggestions are welcome
Thank you!!!

Try looking up aquamaxx. I've read really good reviews. I have one, just haven't set up that system yet.

I have the same setup. Running an I-Tech 100 skimmer. Not sure if they started making them again but you might be able to find a used one cheap. Phosphates are at 0 so it must be working. I started feeding more.

I can't seem to find an I-tech skimmer anywhere.

I'm tossed between the SWC Xtreme 120 cone or a Bubble magus NAC5.5 cone.

I'm leaning towards the bubble magus due to pricing and it is rated for higher tank sizes (even though we don't take those for granted)

More suggestions? I'm looking for a small footprint and great skimming.

Ok maybe this will get a laugh lol. But, I use an odyssea 75 gph skimmer with the 225 ghp pump that is came with. It works great and pulls out a lot of brown gunk. And, it was only around $50.00 I bought it for my 30 gallon and I need to upgrade now that I have moved into my 80 gallon, But, it is still doing a good job on the bigger tank so im not in any hurry.

My 40 breeder has 20 long sump --- using an Octopus extreme XS 160. (( using that skimmer for my 75 and 65 too ))

Here is a picture of it and the 20 long sump (( from my 75, but I used the exact same layout for all 3 sumps ))

Thanks for all the replies!!
I'll look into all these Skimmers, but off the back I know that they are not going to be easy on the wallet ;) which means less on other stuff.

if you want a bubble magus get a sca off of ebay. same design without the name. i know a few ppl who have them and love it.
SCA 301 Protein Skimmer for Salt Water Fish Tanks Up to 65 Gallons | eBay

I actually just happened to come across this Skimmer about 3 days ago. I need to find some more pictures of skimmate shots, then it may be the one, but I'll be going with the 303/150

i have the same setup and use a reef octopus nwb-110 .. i have had no issues with it at all and it does a great job

The SCA skimmers are grate for the money. I have been using the SCA 302 on a 110 gallon fish only that I have over stocked and feed a lot and it keeps it really clean. They are as good or better then the SWC and bubble magus I think. There is a big wight up on them on Reef Central.

I use the ASM minig on my 50 bowfront since day 1 and that thing kick you know what. I have never had phosphate problems or a algae outbreak yet. It collects wonderfully and it is quiet without taking up a ton of space (my sump is space limited)
