Hello everyone I'm looking at upgrading my skimmer for my aio tank I my tank is 65gal- 250l tank is very similar to jbj 65 I currently have 2 boyu 428 which have max capacity of 130l each running which came with the tank

The 2 I'm looking at at the moment are the
* hydor slim skim
* tunze comline 9004

Has anyone had any experience with either one of these or have a recommendation for something else largest chamber is 6.5 inches by 5.5inches so space is limited

Thanks in advance

I have the Tunze in my 16g holding tank for about 9 months now and it works OK. It has a small collection cup, but it's super easy to remove and clean.

I had a hydor slim skim and was not happy with it. It was in a jbj45 and I never could seem to get it to skim how I wanted it. More than likely it was due to the tank having 11 bubble nems and a heavy bioload, but was not happy. I picked up a used icecap k2-50 and it barely fit in the chamber but worked great. I ended up taking that skimmer out to reduce noise from where the water coming through the overflow splashed on it and putting in an icecap k1 nano. Which allowed me to put a piece of foam filter inbetween it and the skimmer. I guess my point is, the k2-50 might be an option to look into for your tank as you have a ton more room than my jbj45. I still use the skimmer on my wifes zoa frag tank and it still works great. Have to turn it off for a bit when we feed the tank or it pulls all the reef roids and other stuff out lol. But that’s good, we turn it back on and anything that didn’t get consumed is in the cup.

I have not found the tiny toy models used for the chambers of the AIO to be very effective. My basis is testing nitrate and phosphate levels over time and comparing with and without the use of tunze model skimmers, tunze is considered one of the best and is comparable to any other model. The skimmers were producing skimmate as it were but did not produce any measurable improvements in water quality, adjustments can also be a pita and unpredictable. The skimmer is designed to remove organics before the break down of the nitrogen cycle, which means you should get less production of nitrates and phosphates.

If you want a skimmer to perform, go with a HOB model. You can research popular models, I have used the Eshopps psk-75h on several tanks through the years, it has been a workhorse for over 7 years.

Thanks for all your input Unfortunately cant use a hob skimmer as I stupidly put the the tank way to close to the wall so without having it a real eyesore

I'm trying to find a k2-50 in the uk as shipping from the us is 40 to 50 which is nearly half of what the skimmer its self is

I will keep reading up on others my plan is to go to a 5ft or 6ft with sump some time next year so saving for that I still plan to keep this tank as well but dont want to spend more than I need too but suppose that goes for anything really
