I have a custom sump that was built with the skimmer chamber baffle being 9". I originally wanted the baffle at 7" but I was talked into making it 9. I then purchased a Vertex Omega 150, after doing further research about tuning the skimmer and peoples experiences with it, I came to see a trend that most people have trouble running this skimmer in higher water levels like 9". I am still in the build phase so I have not been able to test this yet on a tank. I am not wanting to build a stand to raise the skimmer because of the limited height under the stand and I just don't want to throw a skimmer on top of an ugly stand.

So here I sit,... do I wait and try running the skimmer at this height when the tank is running?
Do I cut my losses and try recouping some money from an un-used omega 150?
Do I purchase a different skimmer more suited for the higher water level like a bubble magus curve 7 or 9?
Any other skimmers you can think of with a similar footprint to an omega 150 but better suited for the water depth?

I got 9 inch water line in my sump nd vertex omega 150 ready to go in for friday so if i have results in ill let u knoo lol they takr about 2 weeks to fully breakin

Tank is ~65gal (36x24x18) sump I am not exactly sure yet I am not at home and can't remember the exact dims off hand. I'll see if I can find a pic or 2.

Keep the skimmer best skimmer for 70 to 90 gallon imo but ill keep you posted , dun want to put an ugly stand in my sump either but ive seen 6 3/4 , or 7 should be the best

Wow that build is gunna be awsome , i just got in the red sea reefer going to post a build thread just getting electric and everything ready but honestly you might have to sacrafice atleast a inchnd half

Why not just get a skimmer stand?
Honestly I am not sure if I will have enough room under the stand to raise the skimmer the extra 3 or so inches. I have looked but haven't really found anything that fits properly. I may have to see if I can find somewhere to make me something from acrylic. I just can't come to terms with putting a shotty eggcrate and pvc stand under the skimmer.

Thanks man! I'll keep an eye out for your thread. I wired in 2 new 15amp breakers each to there own gfci plug. It held up the build a little while and is total overkill but I had the extra breakers and wanted to have the dedicated plugs for the tank.

what bulb comboo you got there budd just got my dimmable 48inch yesterday
I honestly haven't purchased my bulbs yet. I previously had a 48x24x20 custom rimless with a tek elite 8 bulb fixture that ran a combo of blue+ and aquablue special and it was alright but it did give a more washed out windex look. I'd like to go for a more crisp bluish white with this tank. My LFS has a bunch of KZ bulbs so I might try the new gen or the super blue

Alsoo need atleast an inch and half slack for the cup to screw out but no problem brotha and yea just go with the acrylic it shouldnt cost more then 20 dollars but goodluckk with everything ill keep you posted

Yea the kZ bulbs are awesone i run coralplus purple and blue + but also used to run reefspec bluewhite redsea lights were realllyy awesome but im gunna play around this time with the 12 to 16k bulbs, courtesy of lfs lolol
