Hey everyone! I have recently gotten a brand new tank, and it will be an upgrade from my current biocube. Most of the livestock will be getting moved over, but with everything else from rock to skimmer being brand new (excluding light for now). My question is though, what skimmer would you guys recommend for this tank? It will be a medium-heavily stocked tank. The "heavy" being a Golden Dwarf Moray. There will be no sump as of now, so all equipment is going in the back. I will be adding 50 pounds of marco rock and a refugium for extra biological filtration. I am looking to stay away from HOB skimmers as I want to keep the tank as simple looking as possible. Let me know what you guys think of! Any questions please ask!

What are the dimensions of the skimmer/accessory chamber? You may be able to squeeze an aquamaxx internal skimmer in there, otherwise I would look into some of the newer HOB styles, they're a bit better in terms of performance and don't look too bad.

I have an Ice-Cap K1 Nano, but I don't think it would have enough power for a 45 gallon predator tank.

Just measured, it is 5 x 8 1/2 inches. Also, this tank will not be a predator tank, it will just be a mixed reef, with a small eel.

Looked into the Aquamaxx skimmers, they look good, but the internal one is rated for only 30 gallon heavy bioload. I am looking at the Tunze however, and they have a nice internal model, the 9012, but it is double the price...

Yea skimmer's are not cheap, I've heard good things about the tunze's but they don't fit in my tank so I don't have any first hand experience with them.

I know someone was going to use a K2-50 on their Cvue 40, not sure if that's aesthetically an option for you. Had it running on my ~40 gallon frag tank that had about 12 fish in it for the past four months, was skimming like a beast.

the tunze 9004 is looking like my best option atm, but I am not sure if it will be enough. Maybe if I run a refugium back there as well...

I went with the Tunze 9004 DC in mine. Works perfectly, literally almost too good. I put a refugium in one of the chambers in the back and have had the skimmer off for months. Had an issue with the tank being too clean and it was killing my corals.
