Skimmer for Coralife BC 29

I'm starting to look at skimmers for my BC29. I'm really drawn towards the Hydor Slim Skim Nano, but before I purchase it I want to know if it will fit in the middle chamber as well as will I be able to close the lid with it installed. Does any one have any experience with this skimmer, or are there any other recommendations for a skimmer? I was originally looking at a Tunze 9002 but I heard they are noisy and not very well made.

Hydor slim skim fits fine in chamber 2 I attached it to the divider wall and am using the Intank media tower. I've been running it for 3 days now and its starting calm down and pull skimmate. It is almost silent.

Although the hydor skim will fit in the chamber i have the ocienic protien skimmer and it gets out some chunkys and i get a nice pee color cant beat it for less than 30 dollars.

My cube- 1st chamber is skimmer, second is in tank media basket. Floss, carbon, purigen, phosguard... 3rd chamber mesh square filled watrix... Live rock underneath , cut hole in last wall mod... Sump last. Have a happy crab in first chamber under skimmer FYI . Small emerald. False floor removed btw! No modded re farge -don't need it.

Skimmer btw I don't know name but can pull it out when cleaning if interested enuff... It's just a nice nano skimmer without the wooden airstone... Paddle wheel all the way!!!!!

Caustic,

In what order do you have your equipment placed in chamber 2? From right to left is it Media Basket then Skimmer, or Skimmer then Medai Basket? Aslo, in which direction do you have the grate on the skimmer facing? Sorry for so many questions, just want to make sure I research as much as possible before purchsasing.

Media tower first, with the in tank water diverter. Then the slim skim attached to the divider between 2 and 3 grate facing the media tower. Still getting some microbubbles. I couldn't get it in chamber 1.

Well, I got my Hydor skiimer yesterday from Drs. F&S, but the pump would cut off and on so I am getting it exchanged. I hope this is not a sign of things to come.

I was able to get it in the first chamber, but I could not use the magnets.

Hey Caustic,

I finally got my Hydor, and after getting it set up in the 2nd chamber, I have a loud humming sound when I have the valve almost all the way open. If I close the valve, the hum goes away, but there isn't any foam being made. Have you had this issue as well?

I didnt hear too many good things about the biocube one, that's why I went with the Hydor.

It needs to break in for 2 weeks, then it works amazing. People write a review instantl, but it takes some time to break in. It looks great then.

My slimskim ismacting goofy now, sometimes I get decent foam sometimes no foam and a chattering sound. Of course DrFosterSmith is happy to replace it. Maybe I should try a different one.

I have the Cad Lights in our 29g BioCube. I tried it on another tank because my wife's tank it not running yet, but I love it !
Very easy to adjust by turning the body, and since it comes apart very easy, it's easy to clean.

Highly recommend it !

I use the tunze9002 and it's not Loud at all. The fans are te loud part on the biocubes. It pulls dark hunky skimmate that has to be dumped weekly. I highly recommend it as I have the same exact tank. Airline modification and InTank cup is all you need
