Been running my 180g (plus sump) for a few months (moved up from 90g) and am going to start adding fish soon. Plan to have moderate to heavy stocked tank (several tangs, clownfish, foxface and possible two blue throat triggers).

My sump is smaller than what I realized. 11.5x8.5

I originally as ordering a reef octopus 202-s but obviously no way that'll fit. BRS recommended a Eshopps X-220 for the space.

Any advice or other recommendations?

Another option would be the reef octopus Regal 150 INT

You can certainly go with smaller space saver skimmers.
Why not upgrade your sump?

Agreed
Bigger sump more better. Cheap, easy, make it yourself. Built around what skimmer you want, not what you can fit

It is literally an exact fit below the tank. (Bow front stand). I could go longer but not wider.

Been there

A 29 gal long will fit
30 x 12 x 18
