Skimmer for Red Sea Reefer 250

I'm currently looking at my options for purchasing a saltwater aquarium. If I go with the Red Sea Reefer 250, I need to know what type of equipment I am going to get.

I'm kind of stuck on the skimmer. I read some threads on the same topic and there were a lot of varying opinions. I expect to receive the same from this thread, but I would like to see which skimmers people use in their RSR 250s and which ones they recommend. I saw different opinions on what was overkill and what wasn't.

The skimmer also must work for the water height in the skimmer section of the Reefer's sump. What is the water height in that section? The Red Sea website says it maintains a constant height, but does not say what this height is -- can it vary from tank to tank?

Of course, price is an issue, but if I am going to get a good system running for years to come I should probably invest in a good skimmer.

Yea, I knew there were threads like this, but when I read them I never could decide on the one I wanted.

I was looking at the Reef Octopus Classic 110 INT skimmer. It's less than half the price of the Nyos 120 (that thing is expensive lol, but I suppose reefing is an expensive hobby...) I want the best for my fish/coral, especially since I'm looking at SPS corals, but the cost is adding up quick. Is the Reef Octopus sufficient?

But at the same time, I know you shouldn't skimp on the skimmer. Should I pay the extra $$$ for the Nyos 120 then? What should I do?

I would advise on a Nyos skimmer, however since u want to keep spa I would go for a skimmer which is not too powerful and is rate for aquarium up to 300l max as sps corals feed on dissolved organic matter (DOM) and which the skimmer takes out. I believe the nyos 120 is rated up to 400l so perhaps a bubble magus may be better.

Don't go with the 110 INT. I use that one, it's great and all. I wish it would be quieter. Don't get me wrong it is a great skimmer. I like it. Easy to calibrate, clean and put together. The noise it makes though. I have my Reefer 250 in the living area and sometimes I have to shut it off. Someday I will go with the Nyos but come on like you said it's half the price. I tell the wife, "Well I can buy another one for $300." Then she doesn't mind the noise either. Haha.

my 110 INT is dead silent. is yours raised? my friend @FelipeReefer just got a 250 and is looking for a skimmer to buy

No mine isn't raised. I'm just used to the HOB 90 when it sucked air you didn't know. The 110 INT you can hear it. Other than that it's good. The pump is silent. I guess I'm just asking for more than I should. It's a great skimmer though. I know the Nyos is a lot, but I saw it and heard it. I like the look as well. The bad thing I ever read about it is, it's hard to remove the cup sometimes.
