Am looking to get my Skimmer next, but I have a few questions:

What do you recommend ?
What size tank do you have?
How long have you been using yours?

What size is your tank and what is your budget. Those are two things that need to be known in order to give any advice on skimmer selection.

I personally love the NYOS Quantum 160 and if it broke I would buy another.

My system is around 650 litres before displacement so similar to the Reefer 750

Tank and sump together is 200 Gallons. I don't mind spending money if the product is worth it.

When I had my old tank, I had a 210 gallon reef and I used the Bubble King 200. They issued a new pump for BK that allowed you to control its outflow:

I also have a Red Dragon skimmer on my current tank. They are, in my opinion, the best skimmers and pumps around. Not the cheapest by any means, but they work flawlessly and their design and the quality of their parts are amazing.

You can also find them (occasionally) being sold here in the for sale section. Allows you to buy in for slightly less than new, and most of the time, they are very well maintained by their owners.

Personally, I would advise you dont spend upwards of $1000 on a skimmer and would go with something more reasonably priced. If you want something reliable but lower price, go with Bubble Magus. Many people on this forum will vouch for their quality and value. If you want slightly higher end without paying $$$$ I would choose Nyos. They have a quality line up and they look very sleek. The Quantum 160 would work if you chose Nyos and the Curve 9 would be best if you went with Bubble Magus. Again, most skimmers are built solidly these days. I do no know anyone that has had a newer skimmer "break" unless they did not do average maintenance on them. Personally, I believe you should get one with a DC pump so the Bubble Magus Curve A9 I believe comes with a controllable pump. Good luck!

Bubble King's are defiantly not cheap, but they have been around forever, their build quality and the Red Dragon pumps they use are hands down some of the best. The only other DC pump I am aware of that is at the same level as the Red Dragon pumps are Abyzz. I have never heard of anyone that has owned a Bubble King skimmer or Red Dragon pump that sold to buy something else. I won't knock any other brand, and I have never tried a Nyos skimmer, but I have read reviews on them.

You can also find used BK skimmers being sold on here for far less then $1,000.

Yes I agree with all above. I believe OP said he was buying new so thats where I got that from. Not taking a dig at anyone or any product, just saying most wouldnt spend $1k on a less than 200 gallons tank for a skimmer. Seems to be way overkill tbh.
